Statement of Faith

The following is the Heritage Haven Statement of Faith.  Families in our community are not required to agree with every detail however they agree to respect the right of Heritage Haven Homeschool Cooperative to uphold these views and use discretion based on them in all aspects.

At Heritage Haven, we aim to follow what the earliest Hebrew-Christians believed. Therefore, we emphasize scripture over creeds. Many creeds especially from the Nicaean councils and beyond contain post biblical constructs that we do not necessarily agree with.

We do however agree with the earliest known coptic baptismal confession:

I BELIEVE in one God, The Father almighty

And in his only begotten son Jesus Christ, our Lord,

And in the Holy Spirit, Giver of new life,

And in the resurrection of the flesh,

And in one only, apostolic, holy church everywhere, Which is his church.

We have a wide range of denominations and theological beliefs represented in our group. While we all believe that Jesus is Lord and the only begotten Son of God, there are some families in our group who are trinitarians, some that might believe oneness doctrine, some biblical unitarian, some One God, etc. We respect that every family has the choice to believe and teach their children what they believe is right about the substance of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We also understand that families will choose to pronounce Holy Names of God, His Son, and His Spirit differently and that we are all doing the best we can with what we have as far as Greek/Hebrew/English pronunciation.

We believe the Ecclesia of Jesus/Yeshua/Yahusha is the body of believers from every tribe, tongue, kindred and race of peoples that have been born again, and are indwelt by YHVH through the Holy Spirit which divinely empowers us to do everything that Father God wills for us to do here in the earth. We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still given today, and distributed to each believer according to the Father's will.

The Gospel:

We believe that "God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.." John 3:16 NASB

We believe Romans 10:9-13 "if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

We believe in the following gospel message that Peter preached in Acts 2:

“Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.

David said about him:

“‘I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope,
because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, you will not let your holy one see decay. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’

“Fellow Israelites, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was to come, he spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah, that he was not abandoned to the realm of the dead, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,

“‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”’

“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah...”

“...Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call...”

“...Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”

(Acts 2:14-40 NASB)

Confession/Repentance:

We believe that "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9 NASB

Scripture:

We believe that "all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness." 2 Timothy 3:16

For us this does not only mean the 66 books of the protestant canon, but also books included in the Septuagint and Ethiopian Bible.

Marriage & Sexuality:
Marriage is YHVH-ordained. “The creator made them male and female, and said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh” (Matthew 19:4-5). Marriage is to be an exclusive relationship, a lifelong faithful union between a man and a woman. This relationship between a husband and wife should parallel the relationship between Yeshua and the Ecclesia.

We believe that any sexual immorality or perversion of God's design for marriage, sexuality and gender (fornication, adultery, homosexuality, pornography, transgenderism, sexual abuse, etc.) are sinful behaviors that are in disobedience to YHVH. (Matthew 5:28, Matthew 15:18-20, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, 1 Corinthians 7:2, Hebrews 13:4)

False/Pagan “gods”:
We believe that there is only One True God (YHVH) - The Most High.

Scripture is clear that false “gods” are not just harmless mythology and are actually demonic. (Deuteronomy 32:16-17, Psalm 106:35-38, 1 Corinthians 10:19-21). For our full statement on false/pagan “gods” and the study of mythology see our Statement of Principles and Beliefs.

Witchcraft:

We affirm that all forms of witchcraft, divination, sorcery, enchantments, necromancy, and occult practices are explicitly condemned by God and are described in Scripture as abominations. These practices seek supernatural knowledge or power apart from the one true God and therefore constitute rebellion, deception, and spiritual adultery.

Scripture plainly states:

“There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD.”
— Deuteronomy 18:10–12 (KJV)

We believe that engagement with such practices opens individuals to deception and spiritual bondage rather than truth or freedom. God repeatedly warns His people not to seek guidance, power, or revelation from spirits, signs, omens, or occult methods, but to rely solely on Him.

“And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God?”
— Isaiah 8:19 (KJV)

We further affirm that witchcraft is identified in the New Testament as a work of the flesh that is incompatible with the Kingdom of God:

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance…
they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
— Galatians 5:19–21 (KJV)

We reject all occult practices—including but not limited to spellwork, tarot, astrology, Yoga, divination, channeling, spirit communication, energy manipulation divorced from God, and any system that seeks power or knowledge apart from the Lord. We affirm that true wisdom, revelation, healing, and spiritual authority come only from God through His Spirit, in accordance with His Word.

“For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.”
— Proverbs 2:6 (KJV)

Accordingly, we call believers to repentance from all occult involvement and to wholehearted devotion to the Lord alone, walking in the light, truth, and freedom found in obedience to Him.
